Advanced Fire Protection for Willawong Waste Transfer Station
Quick overview
Our project team has been hard at work at the Willawong Waste Transfer Station near Acacia Ridge, upgrading the hydrant system for our client Cleanaway. BrisFire took on the role of a ‘one-stop shop,’ managing everything from civil works, underground services, power and water connections, to concreting—scope far beyond what you’d expect from a standard fire contractor. The project started in June last year, with completion expected by the end of the year. However, we finished ahead of schedule, just in time for pre-Christmas celebrations, including Engineering and QFES inspections and certifications.
Our goals and challenges
The project involved upgrading the hydrant system while managing a wide scope of work, including civil works, underground services, power and water connections, and concreting. Soil instability posed a challenge, requiring the installation of 18 concrete piers, 6 meters deep. We also had to coordinate 36 concrete trucks, excavators, cranes, and steel reinforcing while ensuring the site remained fully operational throughout the process.
Key outcomes
Despite the complexities, we successfully completed the project ahead of schedule, ensuring all inspections and certifications were completed on time. Our team’s professionalism, focus, and ability to manage multiple trades and services while keeping the site operational were key to the success of the project. We are now looking forward to working on additional fire suppression projects for Cleanaway.
On time and on budget
